Giving South Edinburgh primary schools a sporting chance! SEHLI and Sporting Chance joined forces to give some of the primary five school children in each of the seven local primary schools a sports day they wouldn’t forget! The Children participated in a “Little Athletics Festival” on Thursday the 2nd of June 2005 at Gracemount Leisure Centre. Mary McGibbon the Active Lifestyles Development Worker for SEHLI would like to say a big THANK YOU! to the primary schools, school children and parents who participated in the day. She would also like to say a big thanks to Shirley Webb the Olympic Hammer Thrower for Great Britain who took time out of her training schedule to attended the day. Shirley gave the children lots of encouragement and presented them with their trophies. |

SEHLI's first student placement My name is Erin Murdoch. I am a third year, Food, Nutrition and Health student at Abertay University in Dundee. My university lecturer found SEHLI in the Community Diet Programme’s Directory. After visits were made by both the university lecturer and myself, to SEHLI, all three parties were in agreement that SEHLI was the place for my ten week work placement. When I arrived at SEHLI for my first day I didn’t know what to expect, even after visiting, but I soon realised I had nothing to worry about, because everyone was very positive and friendly and I knew then that these ten weeks would fly by and I wouldn’t want to go back to Dundee! Throughout the ten weeks I was supervised by the Healthy Eating Development Worker, Tracy. I attended meetings and classes that Tracy held, including weaning, cookery and shape – up classes. On some occasions, I was handed over the responsibility of taking the classes. At the beginning this was a daunting experience for me, but after the first couple of minutes, my nerves settled down, everyone made me feel more than welcome and gave me lots of encouragement. Thank you!! So I’d like to finish, by saying a HUGE Thank you to all the staff at SEHLI and everyone I met along the way, who helped to make my placement a memorable experience, especially all the well behaved babies!! THANKS!!!! |
