Healthy Eating

Healthy Eating works to improve access to and take-up of a healthy diet. There are lots of fun activities to help you reduce shopping bills, cook quick and easy dishes or find out more about what you eat. Access to good quality fruit and veg is an important part of any healthy diet and the fruit bus will be winging its way to various locations across South Edinburgh in the coming months. For more information on healthy eating please contact our healthy eating development worker or call on 0131 664 0555.

Fruit Barrows

There are five fruit barrows currently available in South Edinburgh;
Liberton surgery, Inchpark surgery and the Fala Court Health Flat on Monday mornings,
Howden Hall surgery on a Wednesday morning,
and at Gilmerton Community Centre on a Friday morning.

Here you can buy a bag of containing five pieces of fruit for 50p or a vegetable stew pack, containing turnip, carrots and leeks and bags of potatoes for 80p. These are non – profit making stalls, set up to provide fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices.

Recipe Cards

Volunteers and customers often ask us for recipes and ideas to help include more fruit and vegetables in their diet. These have resulted in the creation of our SEHLI recipe cards, including Chilli Con Carne, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Fruit Kebabs and Summer Pudding. The recipes are simple and quick and will help more people reach the recommended ‘5 a day’ target! You can download copies of all the recipes from this website.

Weaning classes

Are you about to start weaning your baby? If so, you should join our three practical sessions looking at when and how to wean your baby. Sessions are held at venues around South Edinburgh. Contact the health eating worker or your health visitors for more information about the next session.
